Walt Disney Imagineering's Research & Development organization is building a new A.I. Character Studio to allow Guests and our beloved characters to share new interactive experiences and stories. The team comprises a cross-disciplinary group of designers, writers, artists, and software engineers. Its charter includes developing a robust and scalable entertainment platform supporting interactive character experiences with up to millions of concurrent users. The studio develops mobile, VR, AR, Mixed Reality, and custom physically situated applications built on a core platform, independently and in partnership with 3rd party developers.

A Day in the Life…  

We're seeking a conversation design intern to create and implement interactive conversation-based experiences for our guests. You will intern for the writing team, developing new experiences in deploying interactive characters. This is a chance to learn from some of the world-class conversation designers at Disney, pioneering this new storytelling artform using state-of-the-art AI technologies. You are open-minded, highly collaborative, flexible, and scrappy while ensuring a high degree of polish for guest-facing products and experiences. The new AI Character Studio members are expected to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-style environment where ambiguity and building things from zero to one are the norm.

Responsibilities/You Will...

  • Participate in the writer's room, completing assignments and receiving and implementing feedback.
  • Work with the creative team to test and refine content. Work on the front end of experience development, brainstorming, outlining, and potentially producing final lines for production.
  • Actively participate in testing and feedback sessions, identify "holes" in the logic or experience, and provide solutions for other team members and users.

What we are looking for…  


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to define and express new concepts through treatments, script-walk-throughs, improv, or prototyped interactive experiences
  • Story development, script writing, and editing experience or interest within Narrative Game Design, Animation, Television, or Theatre.
  • Ability to manage & prioritize multiple assignments in a highly dynamic production environment.
  • Interest in new technologies for creative expression, immersive experience development, and/or other forms of new social content creation platforms and distribution.

Required Education...

  • Working towards Bachelor's degree in film/theatrical writing, game design, interaction design, film, English, creative writing, communications, linguistics, or psychology

Additional Information...

  • At the time of application, you must be enrolled in an accredited college/university, taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program AND returning to school the semester/quarter following the internship OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship ​ 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age​ 
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program. ​ 
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization 
  • Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are May/June - August/September 2023
  • Interns must be fully available for the duration of a 12-week assignment

Pay Rate:

The pay rate for this internship is $25.00 per hour.
